A year after American reggae band SOJA rocked the genre by winning the category, only Jamaicans will be vying for the coveted Best Reggae Album Grammy at the next year’s awards ceremony.

Kabaka Pyramid’s ‘The Kalling’, Koffee’s ‘Gifted’, Protoje’s ‘Third Time’s The Charm’, Sean Paul’s ‘Scorcha’ and Shaggy’s ‘Come Fly Wid Mi’ are the albums nominated.

The 2023 nominations for the category were announced yesterday (Tues) during a livestream event.

Blvk H3ro was also nominated for best global performance as a feature, for a song titled ‘Neva Bow Down’ by Rocky Dawuni.

This is the first nomination for Kabaka Pyramid, whose sophomore album ‘The Kalling’ was released on September 30, Protoje and Koffe’s second. Koffee was previously nominated for the category in 2020, where she won the award for her EP Rapture, eighth nomination for Shaggy, he won twice in1996 and 2019 and this is Sean Paul’s10th Grammy nomination. He won his first Grammy Award back in 2003 for the album, Dutty Rock.

The 2023 Grammy Awards returns to Los Angeles’ Arena on February 5, 2023.
