Thousands of Jamaicans packed the National Stadium in St. Andrew on Wednesday for the highly anticipated Grand Gala, the grand finale of the island’s 63rd Independence celebrations.
This year’s theme, “Be Proud, Be Bold, in Black, Green and Gold,” was brought to life with a vibrant showcase of culture, music, and national pride.
Over 2,500 performers took the stage, with the crowd dressed proudly in Jamaica’s national colours. Reggae legends Leroy Sibbles, Capleton, and Beres Hammond were honoured with Reggae Icon Awards and thrilled the audience with live performances of their biggest hits.
Capleton delivered a moving acceptance speech that spoke to national pride and unity.
Beres Hammond, in his acceptance speech, touched on the power of brand Jamaica.
During his performance, Hammond turned the event into a sing-along with the crowd joining in, singing along word for word.
Other standout acts included Rondell Positive, Petra-Kaye, Christopher Martin, Luciano, and a powerful theatrical performance by ASHE. There was also a moving tribute to missing and abused children in Jamaica.
In a special presentation, the Department of Correctional Services marked its 50th anniversary with an energetic routine, while the Jamaica Constabulary Force staged a crime-fighting demonstration—starring their Rottweiler, Tango, who stole the show by retrieving hidden contraband.
The evening ended with a dazzling fireworks display and drone show that lit up the Kingston sky.
