Authorities in Florida are evaluating the damage caused by Hurricane Milton, which struck the area last night (Wed).

Currently, 12 fatalities have been confirmed, but officials expect this number to rise as services are restored to around 3 million residents.

The hurricane made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key before weakening.

Governor Ron DeSantis reported that more than 340 people and 49 pets have been rescued, with ongoing support from the Florida National Guard and local agencies.

According to Jamaica’s Consul General in Miami, Oliver Mair, Jamaicans in Florida have experienced only minor impacts.
