Prime Minister Andrew Holness has indicated that Jamaica stands ready to assist sister nation St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as the island chain braces for further impact of explosive eruptions from the La Soufriere volcano.

Following the first this morning (Fri), lead scientist Professor Richard Robertson indicated the largest explosion may be yet to come.

Yesterday (Thurs), the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines issued an evacuation order for persons in the red zone.

Already, several countries in the Caribbean, and some international partners, have reached out to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, offering support.

Prime Minister Holness said in light of the increased threatening activity of the volcano, he spoke with St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, yesterday, to express solidarity with the government and people of the sister nation, during this challenging time and to assure him of Jamaica’s readiness to provide assistance.
