The local football community is mourning the passing of Allan “Skill” Cole, the celebrated former Santos and national midfielder, who died Tuesday evening at age 74.

Cole, often hailed as one of Jamaica’s finest players, first gained attention in the 1960s with Vere Technical, scoring 38 goals in his debut season in 1965. At just 15, he made history as the youngest ever to play for Jamaica’s senior team, debuting against Brazil.

His career extended overseas with the Atlanta Chiefs in the late 1960s and later in Brazil with Náutico in the early 1970s. Beyond football, Cole also left his mark on Jamaican culture, famously managing reggae legend Bob Marley’s 1980 tour.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness paid tribute, describing Cole’s legacy as deeply rooted in both sport and culture.
