Ja govt. says it’s monitoring recent developments in Venezuela

The Jamaican government says it is closely monitoring the latest developments in Venezuela.

A release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the situation is dynamic and the country is cognisant of the reactions from various other governments across the hemisphere.

Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith says the primary concern remains for the well-being of the people of Venezuela, the the maintenance of democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Mrs Johnson Smith says Jamaica wishes for a return to dialogue in the hope for a peaceful and amicable resolution to the situation in Venezuela.
