Dancehall star J Capri might not be here with us anymore, but her legacy continues to live on!
More than a decade after her passing, J Capri’s international impact will be recognised posthumously at the Excellence in Music Ceremony 2026, set for Tuesday, September 15, at The Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.
Organised by Back 2 Da Future Music Limited in partnership with Royalty Network Inc., the ceremony will honour Capri alongside fellow Jamaican music contributors Chevelle Franklyn, Heather Cummings and Ma-Isheeba.
Capri, who died in 2015 following a motor vehicle accident, made a lasting mark on dancehall despite her brief career.
Signed to Rvssian’s Head Concussion Records, she became a standout female voice in Dancehall, with “Whine & Kotch,” her hit collaboration with Charly Black, becoming a global favourite.
The hit has surpassed 136 million Spotify streams and recently earned a British Phonographic Industry (BPI) Silver certification. Capri’s collaboration with Konshens, “Pull Up To Mi Bumper,” has also passed 70 million Spotify streams.
Capri will be recognised as a featured artiste, while Franklyn will receive BPI Silver recognition for her feature on Shabba Ranks’ “Mr Loverman.”
Cummings will receive a Grammy Certificate for her background vocals on Beres Hammond’s One Love, One Life, while Ma-Isheeba will be honoured with six BPI-certified discs linked to recordings by artists including Rick Astley, Aswad, Dina Carroll and Climie Fisher.
The sixth staging of the ceremony, formerly known as the Grammy Certificate Ceremony, will continue to celebrate Jamaican contributors to Grammy-winning and nominated projects, as well as internationally successful recordings.
