Jamaica was plunged into darkness Friday night following an islandwide power outage that lasted nearly two hours, prompting Energy Minister Daryl Vaz to promise a public update on Saturday.
JPS said it activated its Incident Command Centre and began restoring service while investigating the cause of the system failure.
Vaz described the blackout as “unacceptable” and said a full investigation would be conducted.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Defence Force confirmed that a fire at Up Park Camp was extinguished after a coordinated response from multiple fire units.
Authorities have not indicated whether the two incidents are connected.
