A 40-year-old man believed to be of unsound mind was shot and injured during a confrontation with police in Springfield District on Friday morning.
Reports say the incident occurred about 10:40 a.m. when officers were in the area and an altercation developed.
The man was shot during the encounter and taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was admitted.
Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the incident.
