The Met Office says a strong Tropical Wave currently east of Jamaica is expected to move across the island later today.

Satellite imagery indicates that the wave is currently producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms across the south-central Caribbean.

Current projections are for this wave to develop into a broad area of Low Pressure across the south-western Caribbean on Thursday, and to linger across the region through to early Saturday.

Adverse weather conditions associated with this system are expected to affect Jamaica beginning tonight through to Friday afternoon.

As a result, the forecast is for mostly cloudy conditions with periods of showers and thunderstorms which could be heavy at times, to begin affecting eastern parishes tonight.

Fishers on the cays and banks are advised to exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms and strong gusty winds for the period Thursday through to Friday.
