Mavado’s long-awaited return to the Jamaican stage has been postponed due to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
“Reggae Fest: The Return of Mavado,” originally scheduled for Saturday, December 27 at Plantation Cove in St. Ann, was set to mark the dancehall star’s first major homecoming performance in nearly a decade.
Event organizer CJ Milan explained that the decision was made with the nation’s recovery in mind. In a statement, she shared that her recent visit to the island revealed the severe impact of the storm, prompting the postponement.
Since Hurricane Melissa struck on October 28, Mavado has been actively involved in relief efforts, assisting thousands of displaced residents across multiple parishes.
The concert was expected to be a major cultural milestone, especially as Mavado’s return became possible following the lifting of a 2018 arrest warrant earlier this year.
Milan assured fans that a new date will be announced once Jamaica is “in a better place to celebrate together.”
