How Does The Juno Awards Select The Nominees For Best Reggae Recording Of The Year?

We’re asking this question as the nominees for the 2019 award include veteran Reggae music producers and new blood. The nominees for the Reggae recording of the year are as follows: Kafinal & Queen Ifrica for ‘Talk or no Talk’, Sly and Robbie and Dubmatix for ‘Overdubbed’, Blessed for ‘Money don’t grow pon trees’ and Chelsea Stewart for ‘Genesis’.

So, how can young and new Reggae artists be qualified for a major award like that with the possibility of taking it home?

According to the website, ctvnews.ca, to be eligible for a Juno nomination, artists must have released material between Sept. 1, 2007 and mid-November, 2008. Exceptions are the Album of the Year, International Album of the Year and the Juno Fan Choice Award, with deadlines that extend until the end of the year. All winners are chosen either by the vote of the CARAS (The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) board or CARAS members, except for the Juno Fan Choice Award, which is voted on by the public.

So, Chelsea Stewart, who is the youngest female to be nominated has a good chance of winning. She shared with the Zee what she thinks it means for her if she should win the award.

The 2018 Juno Reggae recording of the year award was won by Kirk Diamond for his single ‘Greater’.

The Juno Awards are presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music. New members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame are also inducted as part of the awards ceremonies. Congratulations to all nominees and may the best nominee win.
