Former People’s National Party (PNP) treasurer, Norman Horne, has resigned from the Senate.

In a letter dated December 10, Horne announced that he had advised the Governor General that he will not be accepting the appointment to sit as an Opposition Senator.

Speculation had hung over Horne’s accession to the Legislature  for some time following confirmation that he is the holder of a valid United States passport, rendering him ineligible for membership in the Senate.

Under Jamaican law, only Commonwealth dual citizenship is allowed for holders of seats in either the House of Representative or the Senate.
