Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the introduction of a dedicated school bus system in the public transportation sector, will enhance safety, while easing the financial burden on families.
Mr. Holness noted that the government is now at a point, where it can bring in buses that are specifically for the transportation of students.
He said when this program is fully rolled out, Jamaica will have a comprehensive school bus system.
The Prime Minister was speaking yesterday (Mon), after a tour of one of the retrofitted units that will be utilized in the school bus system.
Mr. Holness noted that the buses will be outfitted with cameras and tracking capabilities, to facilitate live location updates, via an app.
The new school bus system will be jointly operated by the Ministry of Education and Transport and is set to launch in September.
The service will offer rides for as little as $20 per trip.
