Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton, is encouraging persons who travelled to and from the People’s Republic of China within the last four weeks to make themselves available for assessments, to determine whether they have been exposed to the Coronavirus.
He said the Ministry has begun a process to track those individuals and we would ask those individuals, if they are not contacted, to make themselves available, either to their private physician or the public health system.
The advisory follows a report of one suspected case of the virus surfacing at the University Hospital of the West Indies, which was dispelled by Dr. Tufton and the hospital’s Chief of Medical Staff, Dr. Carl Bruce.
In the meantime, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith says the ministry continues to closely monitor the welfare of the Jamaican community in China regarding the spread of the coronavirus across that country.
The foreign minister advised that in order to address the concerns being raised by the people in the Wuhan group regarding food and supplies, the embassy was able to obtain from the Hubei Foreign Affairs office a list of 24-hour hotlines available to foreigners to provide them with assistance and guidance during the crisis.
