During their ‘tell all’ last night with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan and Harry revealed some very shocking details of their time as working royals.
In the biggest bombshell, Meghan claimed there were concerns within the royal family about how dark their first child, Archie, would be. In the months leading up to Archie’s birth, Meghan said there were not only conversations about how he would not be given a title or security, but a member of the royal family raised concerns with Harry about how dark the baby’s skin might be and “what that would mean or look like”.
Meghan also spoke about the depths of her mental despair before she and her husband split from the royal family. Meghan said she reached a point where she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore, and that was a very real and clear and frightening and constant thought”.
Harry also said that he was cut off financially after they announced that they would step back as senior members of the royal family. He added that they have been supporting themselves with the money left to him by his late mother, Princess Diana.
The couple also revealed they were married in secret three days before their wedding on May 19, 2018. The couple quietly exchanged vows in their backyard. The intimate wedding was officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The couple also addressed their relationship with Queen Elizabeth, saying that they still talk to the Queen and have enormous respect for her.
On a happier note, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also announced the gender of their baby during the two-hour-long interview. “It’s a girl,” Prince Harry said. The baby will be due in summer and he implied they wouldn’t have any more children.
