GOV’T TO IMPLEMENT NATIONAL SALT REDUCTION PROGRAM

As part of measures to combat Non Communicable Diseases NCD’s, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, will be implementing a National Salt Reduction Program.

Portfolio Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton made the announcement, while speaking at the opening of a two day regional meeting, on the reduction of salt for prevention and control of NCDs, at the University of the West Indies yesterday (Tues).

The Minister pointed out that the project will run for 18 months, in partnership with the Caribbean Institute for Health Research.

He said the program carries a $23m budget and is aimed at reducing blood pressure and associated cardiovascular diseases.
