The Government will honor reggae icon Sly Dunbar this weekend with a series of events in Kingston.
Announced by Minister of Culture Olivia Grange, the tribute will include a public viewing, motorcade, and official funeral, giving fans, musicians, and industry figures the chance to celebrate the life of one of the world’s most influential drummers.
The official funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on George Headley Drive. A public viewing will precede the service on Friday, March 6 at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
On Friday morning, a special motorcade will depart from Channel One Studio, with stops at One Pop Music Studio, Mixing Lab Studio, and Anchor Studio, spaces central to the music industry’s history.
Minister Grange called Dunbar “one of the best drummers the world has ever seen,” noting that the events provide a moment for the nation to honor his enduring contribution to music.
