The government plans to spend one billion dollars over the next three months to fight the dengue outbreak.
Health & Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the money will be used for what he termed “enhanced dengue intervention.”
He says there has been approval of the emergency procurement of 35 new vector control vehicles, “with mounted foggers” in order to increase eradication exercises throughout the island.
It is anticipated that those 35 vehicles will be procured “during the course of this month”.
Of the additional $1 billion to be allocated, $469 million will be used to purchase the vehicles, foggers, tablets for water treatment, and to pay vector control workers, the minister disclosed.
There will also be a “National Mosquito Eradication Day”, “in conjunction with the National Labour Day Secretariat.
