The government has indicated that its contemplating imposing a ban on corporal punishment.

The matter came up in the Lower House yesterday, as parliamentarians reacted to reports that a 4 year old boy died after being beaten by his step father.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness cited studies which indicate that children who are abused, tend to become aggressive and gravitate towards a life of crime and violence.

He noted that its best to teach children, how to show love and care, during their formative years.

Mr. Holness said he is to get recommendations from the national council on violence prevention, soon.
