The Government has approved a 16 per cent fare increase for public passenger vehicle (PPV) operators, ending a request that had been under consideration since April 2024.
The increase will be implemented in two phases, with an initial eight per cent adjustment taking effect in June and a further eight per cent increase in July.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said the phased approach was chosen to reduce the inflationary impact that a single fare hike could have on commuters.
He noted that the decision aims to balance the financial needs of transport operators with the interests of the travelling public.
