Government Advances Jamaica’s First Elder Care Protection Law

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has started the procurement process to develop Jamaica’s first comprehensive Elder Care and Protection legislation.

The new law will focus on protecting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of older persons across the country.

Specialist consultants will be hired to conduct research, review international best practices, and help prepare the policy framework and draft legislation.

Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr. says the move marks an important step after consultations and a review by the Senate’s Special Select Committee.
