FOUR PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL ABSTRACTION OF ELECTRICITY

Four people have been arrested by police for illegal abstraction of electricity, following a joint operation with the Jamaica Public Service JPS, in sections of Greater Portmore, St. Catherine.

In a statement yesterday (Mon), JPS said over 15 teams from the company conducted multiple audits in a number of communities in an effort to clamp down on electricity theft.

36 instances of illegal connections were discovered, resulting in security forces making four arrests in the community of Three West.

JPS Media and Public Relations Manager Audrey Williams said teams completed 222 audits, with roughly 50 thousand kilowatt hours of electricity being recovered.

That recovered electricity, has an expected value of $2.7 million.
