As the General Election on September 3, 2025, approaches, the Firearm Licensing Authority FLA is urging all licensed firearm holders to exercise extreme caution and responsible firearm practices. The Authority emphasizes that under no circumstances should firearms be brandished.
Brandishing, a criminal offence under Section 48 (1) of the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act, 2022), refers to displaying, waving, or exposing a firearm in a threatening manner intended to instill fear. Licensed holders are legally required to keep firearms concealed and must not intentionally display them in public.
During the election season, all firearm holders are reminded to follow safe handling practices and never use their firearm to intimidate, provoke, or threaten others.
The FLA warns that individuals found engaging in such reckless behavior may face immediate suspension or revocation of their firearm licence, as well as a fine of up to $3,000,000 or imprisonment for up to three years.
The Authority reaffirms its commitment to the safe, legal, and responsible use of private firearms in Jamaica, and urges licensed holders to act with discipline and respect for the law and their fellow citizens during this political season.
