The United States says it will be sending FBI and Department of Homeland Security Officials to Haiti, following the nation’s request for help in the investigation of the assassination of its President Jovenel Moïse.

Haitian authorities say a group of 28 foreign mercenaries, including retired Colombian soldiers assassinated the President.

After a gun battle in the capital Port-au-Prince, 17 were detained, some at the house they were using, and others after entering Taiwan’s diplomatic compound.

Three suspects were killed by police and eight are still being sought.

The confirmation of assistance from the US came from White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
