Farm-worker held with cocaine at Norman Manley International Airport

A farm-worker who was arrested in connection with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Wednesday, March 3 has been charged by the Narcotics Police.

He is Ochena Demetri, a farmworker of Gimme-Me-Bit, Clarendon. He was charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, Taking Steps Preparatory to Export Cocaine and Conspiracy to Export Cocaine.

According to reports from the Narcotics Police, Demetri was checking in for his flight to Toronto, Canada, when his luggage was checked and cocaine was found hidden in food items. The estimated weight of the drug is 11 pounds. It has an estimated street value of CAD $220,000.00.

He was charged on Wednesday, March 10, after an interview in the presence of his attorney.

Demetri is to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Friday, March 12.
