Rapper Nelly, despite the backlash from his core fans, performed at Liberty Ball on Monday night, honouring President Trump on his inauguration as the 47th president of the United States.
According to reports, Nelly performed a series of hits; however, videos of his performance show a quiet audience, with some online users describing the performance as “embarrassing,” stating that his fans were “evidently not in the crowd.”
Scores of fans took to Instagram and X to air their grievances about the performance. Nelly performed his hit “Hot In Here,” and while pausing for a crowd reaction to sing along, he was met with silence.
One Instagram user jeered, “Most of them folks had to Google who he was,” before highlighting the predominantly white crowd in attendance.
As reported by the Zee yesterday (Jan 21), Nelly defended his decision to participate in an inauguration event, saying, "It is an honor for me to perform for the President of the United States, regardless of who is in office."
