Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Monday backed a proposed fan boycott of World Cup matches in the U.S., in protest of President Donald Trump’s actions both at home and abroad.
Blatter joined other international soccer figures in questioning the U.S.'s suitability as a host country.
He expressed his support for the boycott in a post on X, referencing comments made by Mark Pieth, a Swiss attorney and anti-corruption expert. Pieth, who chaired FIFA's Independent Governance Committee overseeing reforms a decade ago, had criticized the U.S. hosting bid.
Blatter, who led FIFA from 1998 to 2015, resigned amid a corruption investigation into the organization.
