Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has expressed concern about the quality of service that is being provided by the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) after Hurricane Beryl.
In a statement on social media, Mr. Vaz said five weeks after the full restoration of power following Hurricane Beryl, he is of the view that there remain too many complaints regarding poor service, power outages, and disruptions due to low voltage.
He noted that he received an update from the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR), following his request in September for a report on complaints against utility providers.
He said the report in summary shows that 436 complaints were made between January and August this year, compared to 279 complaints over the similar period for 2023.
Mr. Vaz said the ministry will review the report and on completion, will engage stakeholders to effect solutions to this challenge.
