Employee of an Aircraft Handling Agency arrested on suspicion of Possession of Cocaine

A contracted employee of an aircraft handling agency has been arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine, following the discovery of the illicit drug, at the Sangster International Airport in St James, yesterday (May 29).

Senior Superintendent in charge of Ports, Wayne Cameron confirmed that the employee was held after he tried to run, following the discovery of 1 kilogram of cocaine, under a raincoat by a port security officer.

Police reports are that about 10:21 AM, port security members were conducting security checks at a gate at the airport when a motor truck, driven by the accused was searched.

Two packages made from grey duct tape were seen behind the driver’s seat. The accused was confronted by the port security officers but he allegedly ran.

The police were summoned and the lawmen gave chase. The employee was accosted in the staff parking lot of the airport.

The incident is being investigated by the Narcotics Division.
