Electoral Office Begins Official Recount for General and Local Government Elections Held Wednesday

The Electoral Office will today (Thurs) begin the official recount of votes cast in both the General Election and the Local Government By-Elections held yesterday.

Preliminary results show the Jamaica Labour Party JLP leading in 34 constituencies, while the People’s National Party PNP secured the majority in 29.

Voter turnout for the General Election was estimated at 39.5 percent.

In the Local Government By-Elections, JLP candidates won all three divisions within the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, Chancery Hall, Olympic Gardens, and Denham Town. Turnout for these by-elections stood at approximately 36.1 percent.

The final ballot count will take place today at designated counting centers.
