Eight distinguished figures from the local entertainment industry will be honoured at the National Honours and Awards ceremony this October for their outstanding contributions to the arts.
Gospel singer Kevin Downswell and reggae artiste Etana will receive the Order of Distinction Officer Class for their impact on gospel and reggae music, respectively.
Joining them are music producer Cleveland ‘Clevie’ Browne, ska pioneer Owen ‘Count Owen’ Emanuel, and dancer Dr Lenora ‘L’Antoinette’ Stines.
The late reggae star Garnet Silk will be posthumously awarded the OD Officer Class for his influence on conscious reggae.
Veteran producer Lloyd ‘King Jammy’ James will be elevated to Commander Class, recognizing his innovation in reggae and digital dancehall, while acclaimed author and former Poet Laureate Olive Senior, will also receive the Order of Distinction Commander Class for her contributions to Jamaican literature.
A total of 141 national honours will be conferred this year.
