Education Minister Fayval Williams wants the Consumer Affairs Commission to investigate reports of price gouging in relation to electronic devices such as tablet computers.
It is being reported that price gouging is one of the challenges being faced in relation to attempts to get students online for classes.
According to these reports, devices which were being sold for $9,000 two months ago are now being traded for no less than $15,000 in downtown Kingston.
Mrs Williams said the ministry has also been getting some of those reports.
She noted as well however that the worldwide shortage of tablet computers could also be influencing prices.
