The recent seizure of 66 firearms and over 4,500 rounds of ammunition at Newport West, Port Bustamante, on February 17, 2025, has been met with commendation from leaders within the Jamaican Diaspora and local communities.
This operation, conducted jointly by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) and the Jamaica Customs Agency, uncovered 50 handguns and 16 rifles concealed in two barrels shipped from the United States.
Superintendent Samuel Blake, head of the FNID, reassured the public that all seized firearms undergo a strict disposal process to ensure they never re-enter circulation.
He highlighted the comprehensive framework in place to permanently remove these weapons, decommissioning and destroying them to prevent any future threat to public safety.
