Danielle Williams made history on Sunday by becoming the first Jamaican to win a Grand Slam track title, delivering a dominant performance in the women’s 100m hurdles at the National Stadium.
Her electrifying time of 11.54 seconds not only secured her victory but also showcased her incredible sprinting form, resembling that of a 100m flat sprinter with her powerful high knee-lift technique.
Williams had already picked up eight points for her second-place finish in the hurdles on Friday. But her win on Sunday added 12 more points, taking her total to 20, which clinched the Grand Slam title. For her efforts, she walked away with a whopping US$100,000 (J$15.7 million).
This achievement further cements Williams' status as one of Jamaica’s premier hurdlers and underscores the nation’s growing legacy in not just sprinting, but in sprint hurdles on the global stage.
