American sing D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, has been transferred to Los Angeles Men’s Central Jail and placed in segregation due to the high-profile nature of his case, according to authorities.
The 21-year-old was arrested last week in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose decomposed body was found in September inside the front trunk of a Tesla registered to him. Prosecutors say the teen had been missing before her remains were discovered months later at a tow yard.
He has been charged with first-degree murder, including special circumstances such as murder for financial gain and murder of a witness in an investigation. Prosecutors also allege he engaged in an underage sexual relationship with the victim and later killed her after she threatened to expose him.
At a press conference, Los Angeles officials described the case as “brutal” and “horrific,” alleging the victim was killed to prevent her from revealing information that could damage his music career. They also claimed her body was dismembered and stored in the vehicle for months before being discovered.
Authorities say they have gathered extensive evidence in the case, while noting D4vd could face the death penalty if convicted. His legal team has pleaded not guilty, insisting that evidence will show he did not commit the murder.
He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
