CXC Introduces CTEC, A Flexible Modular Certification Aimed At Enhancing Student Adaptability

The Caribbean Examinations Council CXC is set to launch a new qualification called the Caribbean Targeted Education Certificate CTEC, which will break down traditional subjects into smaller, modular components. This new system will allow students to study at their own pace and applies to both CSEC and CAPE subjects.

During a press briefing on April 15, CXC Registrar Wayne Wesley explained that CTEC will offer three learning pathways: an advanced, fast-tracked option with a condensed curriculum; a standard, two-year programme; and a flexible, personalized route with an extended timeline. He emphasized that the initiative is designed with the learner’s needs in mind.

Wesley also noted that while the syllabus content for each subject will remain unchanged, students will earn a full subject certificate once they complete all required modules.

In cases where students temporarily exit the education system, they will be able to resume from where they left off. The rollout of the programme is scheduled to begin in September 2025, with the first round of CTEC certifications expected in 2026.
