The new school year in Jamaica will get underway (for primary and secondary schools) with virtual classes today with psycho-social sessions for students who have been out of class for the last six months.
In a national broadcast Sunday evening Education Minister Fayval Williams said the sessions will be held from Monday to Wednesday.
Mrs. Williams said some students have been affected by the lack of interaction with their peers and changes in their routines.
She said schools have been directed to develop their own psycho-social plans, which will be monitored by the education ministry.
The ministry will also provide counselling support.
Mrs. Williams also announced that the distribution of textbooks will begin today.
