With road fatalities up by 7% this year, Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones says it will take a collaborative approach to reduce deaths on the nation’s roadways.

Some 427 persons have been killed in 381 fatal crashes since the start of the year.

Dr. Jones notes that, apart from motorists reducing their speed, there is a need for other systems to be implemented, to ensure road safety.

He is still urging motorists to exercise caution on the roadways.

Meanwhile, the St. Ann police have ramped up monitoring of major roadways, in the wake of frequent motor vehicle accidents, in recent days.

The parish has recorded 27 fatalities, from 25 crashes, so far, this year.

Head of operations for the division, Deputy Superintendent Kevin Francis said the increased police presence, is also part of enhanced security measures for the holiday season.
