CLAN CARTHY PRIMARY MOURNING TRAGIC DEATH OF 7-YEAR-OLD STUDENT

The Clan Carthy Primary School community was yesterday plunged into mourning with the tragic death of a student on the school compound.

He has been identified as 7 year old Benjamin Bair, of Slipe Pen Road, Kingston 5.

Reports are that about 4:30 pm yesterday (Mon), a garbage truck was at the school collecting garbage, when the driver reportedly lost control of the truck which ran into a motorcar, before overturning.

The overturned truck reportedly pinned young Benjamin, killing him on the spot.

A woman who was injured in the incident, was taken to hospital for treatment. Her condition is not considered life threatening.

The driver of the motor truck reportedly fled the scene.

 

Meanwhile, Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Education Karl Samuda, has described the death of young Benjamin Bair at the Clan Carthy Primary School, as “an unspeakable horror that no parent should have to experience”.

The Minister is urging special care and precaution by motorists when on school compounds and roads in the vicinity of educational institutions.

This morning, a team of Councillors from the Ministry will conduct a special counselling session with each class at the school and devotions led by community church clergy, will take place at the start of the school day.

This as efforts continue to console staff, students and parents.

 

And……….The National Solid Waste Management Authority NSWMA has expressed sadness at the death of 7 year old student Benjamin Bair.

Executive Director of the NSWMA Audley Gordon say the truck involved in the accident, is not owned by or currently contracted to the NSWMA.

He says however, that senior management at the MPM Waste Management Limited, were dispatched to the site of the incident.

The waste collection agency has extended sympathy and prayers to the parents, members of the school community and friends of the deceased.
