Reggae artiste Chris Martin has pulled out of the upcoming Food, Rum and Reggae Benefit festival set for this Sunday, where he was meant to headline alongside Capelton and Agent Sasco. Martin had been recovering from an injury sustained during a performance in Sierra Leone last Saturday.

The news was first shared to Martin’s Instagram on Thursday evening with a statement reading, “During my performance in Sierra Leone, I sustained some injuries after a technical issue caused me to fall through the stage. I am currently still undergoing medical evaluation, and my doctor has advised me to take a few days of complete rest. I’m truly grateful it wasn’t worse.”

He continued by expressing his regret at having to miss the event and encouraged fans to not make his absence deter them from supporting a great cause saying, “and I was truly looking forward to seeing you and being a part of this event. But right now, I have to prioritize healing so I can return to the stage at full strength…Please ensure you go out and support the show, it’s for a powerful cause. The lineup is incredible, and the performances will be amazing. I’ll be back very soon.”

The announcement was corroborated by Food, Rum and Reggae Festival organizers this afternoon in a statement that ended with “The festival … extend heartfelt wishes for a safe and speedy recovery. We look forward to welcoming him home and seeing him back on stage when he’s fully healed. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
