Following RnB star Chris Brown’s release of his latest album, Brown, US entertainment critique platform Pitchfork rated the project a scathing 1.3 out of 10, describing it as "soulless, hit-chasing music". The artiste has seemingly hit back at the platform in a new Instagram story.
Brown took to social media to say: "Team Breezy. I know people want me to get on here and, you know, say some sad [stuff, but]... We ain’t letting up... I’mma keep my foot on their neck, and we ain’t stopping... I know exactly who my fans is, and I know exactly who hearing this album. If you’re not my fan, I don’t want you to listen... Go listen to Zara Larsson or somebody."
The mention of Zara Larsson follows a recently viral clip of the Swedish pop artist in an interview with Cosmopolitan. When asked who she had blocked from her Spotify, she replied, "You certainly won't find a Chris Brown song."
While fans debate the replay value of Brown against the negative Pitchfork review, dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel took to his Instagram stories to show support for Chris Brown. He reposted a tweet that reads: "‘Well this album is [bad]’ Why even write about it? For years traditional media has been tiptoeing around the popularity of Chris Brown and in reality that benefits nobody but him."
