Chaos in St Ann caused the authorities to pause events from taking place at Pearly Beach in the parish.
According to reports, the St Ann Municipal Council
has suspended event permits for Pearly beach. This following an emergency meeting on Sunday. It is unclear how long the suspension will last.
The decision follows an event at the location on Saturday, which contributed to gridlock for several hours.
The meeting involved several stakeholders across various government departments, including the police, the National Works Agency (NWA), and the St Ann Development Company (SADCo), a subsidiary of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), which owns Pearly Beach.
Persons who are stuck in the gridlock shared their experiences on social media. One user said ” Legit 5 lanes of traffic exiting St Ann’s Bay heading into Ocho Rios! The people have legit obstructed all vehicles going into St Ann’s Bay!”, while another said, ” I’d honestly rent a boat over St Ann’s Bay side, I would not be sitting [in] the traffic.”
