Double Olympic champion Caster Semenya plans to challenge the Olympics’ new gender-testing policy, which she says "undermines women's rights."
The IOC introduced the rule last week to standardize regulations for female athletes after years of controversy. Semenya, affected by a Difference of Sexual Development DSD, says the IOC misinterpreted the science.
DSDs are rare conditions affecting genes, hormones, and reproductive organs. The IOC argued that including “androgen-sensitive XY-DSD athletes” in strength- or endurance-based female events, could affect fairness and safety.
Semenya, a two-time Olympic and three-time world 800m champion, was previously limited to shorter events under similar rules.
