American rapper Cardi B has come to the defence of Vybz Kartel after the Dancehall mogul was recently mocked for his appearance.
Fans have noticed a clear difference in Vybz Kartel's appearance before and after his prison sentence.
During one of her X Spaces sessions, Cardi B said, "I do not play about Vybz Kartel. I see y’all... Americans… No offense. I mean, I’m American, but when I see y’all talking about Vybz Kartel, I get upset. Like, not too much... Mind your business."
Cardi B's comments follow criticism on social media of the “Fever” singer's appearance, with some mocking him for working out. Vybz Kartel has been open about his struggle with Graves' disease, an autoimmune condition that can cause bulging eyes, sensitivity to heat, excessive sweating, or warm, moist skin, among other symptoms.
Several Instagram users explained that the Jamaican correctional system differs from that in the U.S., as many prisoners do not have access to gym facilities and the conditions are not as "pristine" as those abroad.
Others clarified that Kartel has been in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day and does not have access to the same resources as inmates in international prison facilities.
