Burna Boy Says He “Felt More Jamaican” Growing Up

Share

Turns out, Burna Boy’s love for Jamaican culture isn’t just for the music videos!
The Afrobeats superstar recently revealed in an interview with Capital Xtra London that during his school years in Brixton, he felt “more Jamaican” than Nigerian.
“Jamaica has always been a part of me,” he said. “From my dad playing Super Cat at home, to me growing up around mostly Jamaicans and Caribbeans, it just soaked into me.”
The 'Last Last' singer also shared that there were barely Nigerians around him, stating, “Even the Africans in my crew weren’t Nigerian, they were Gambian, Ugandan, Congolese… I had two Nigerian friends, Max.”
While Burna proudly reps Nigeria on the world stage, his connection to Jamaica is undeniable, and of course, it is mutual.
So far, the African giant has teamed up with dancehall and reggae heavyweights like Popcaan, Byron Messia, and YG Marley.
If you can recall, he brought his Love Damini World Tour to Jamaica’s National Stadium in 2023. The following year, he returned to celebrate his birthday and created a stir with his Jada Kingdom saga.
Sounds like a true Yardie!
