The Cosby Show creator Bill Cosby has broken his silence following the tragic death of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who passed away at age 54 from an accidental drowning.
Warner drowned on Sunday (July 20) while vacationing with family in Costa Rica. Authorities confirmed he was pulled under by a strong tide, and his official cause of death has been listed as asphyxiation.
Warner rose to fame in the 1980s as Theo Huxtable on NBC’s The Cosby Show, a role that not only made him a household name but also earned him an Emmy nomination at just 16 years old.
In a statement, Cosby’s spokesperson Andrew Wyatt said the comedian is “devastated” by the news, describing it as a profoundly sad day.
Wyatt added that Cosby’s grief is reminiscent of the pain he felt when his own son, Ennis Cosby, was murdered during a failed robbery in 1997.
