American cable television network, BET, has officially paused its Soul Train Awards and Hip-Hop Awards, according to CEO Scott Mills.
In a recent Billboard interview, Mills explained that the shows aren't cancelled, they’re “suspended” as the network re-evaluates their place in today’s changing media landscape.
No timeline for their return has been given.
The Soul Train Awards, which was launched in 1987 by Don Cornelius, last aired in 2023 with Keke Palmer as host. While the Hip-Hop Awards, last hosted by Fat Joe in 2024, began in 2006.
Mills did not address the future of the BET Awards, which is the network’s flagship event celebrating Black excellence across music, film, TV, and sports.
