The family of Barry White has entered the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake by filing a lawsuit related to Kendrick's hit song “Like That.”
The Barry White Family Trust, led by White's widow, Glodean B. White, alleges that “Like That,” by Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar, unlawfully samples the bassline from White’s 1973 track “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Babe.”
The lawsuit targets Rodney-O and Joe Cooley, whose 1986 song “Everlasting Bass” is sampled in “Like That,” claiming it also infringes on White’s copyright.
Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar are not named in the lawsuit yet, as they are supposedly protected by indemnity agreements with Rodney-O and Joe Cooley.
However, the plaintiffs may pursue further claims if needed.
This lawsuit adds to the drama surrounding “Like That,” a track that has fueled an ongoing rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
The White family is seeking over $1 million in damages for alleged copyright infringements.
