The authorities are investigating reports of noxious fumes in sections of the Corporate Area, yesterday (Tues).

The National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA and the Jamaica Fire Brigade say several reports of sewage like odour were received from persons in Half Way Tree, St. Andrew and New Kingston, yesterday.

Several business places had to be evacuated, among them the Ministry of Transport and Mining and the National Works Agency, in Half Way Tree.

In a social media post, Transport Minister Robert Montague said the workers were sent home.

He added that he, State Minister in the Ministry JC Hutchinson and Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Everald Warmington who have offices, on the compound, are safe.

Meanwhile, Senior Manager of the Environmental Management Sub-Division at NEPA, Richard Nelson said that while the agency is unable to definitely determine what the odour is, it appeared to have been sewage.
